 Jackie Karels |
I was born and raised in New Jersey and decided to move to Boca Raton, Florida shortly after graduating high school in 1997. I lived in Florida for five years until I relocated again in 2001 to Omaha, Nebraska, where I've been ever since. My graphics career started when I was 16. A good friend of the family owned her own print shop and she took me under her wing and taught me the "ins" and the "outs" of the printshop. I learned typesetting (the hardway using an old photo typesetter, no computers believe it or not!), paste-up, bindery, and how to run one and two color presses. From there I moved to a larger shop where I was able to expand into the computer world and started designing. From there I moved to Florida where I became the senior graphic artist. Here I was introduced to even higher end work where I became familiar with the prepress end of the industry. Then when I moved to Omaha in 2001 I branched off into the folding carton/packaging side of the business. Here I worked for a company that taught me there is no excuse for anything less than perfect. This is also where I met Amanda. Then in 2009 I was blessed with my first son and decided to take a break from the corporate world to stay home with my baby. Not soon after I left the corporate world, I decided to take a passion of mine and partner up with Amanda, and so, JAM Creative was born. |

I am a small town Nebraska girl. I grew up in North Loup, Nebraska. Graphics and printing were introduced to me at a young age. My parents owned the small town Newspaper. They took over the newspaper when it was beginning to go “digital.” (tough to call it that now!) I grew up helping wherever it was needed...on the computer, behind the camera, in front of a small press and cutting and pasting the newspaper together weekly. I got all the basics here. I moved to Omaha and while I was going to school for a graphic arts degree, I was able to work in a commercial printing company. Here I learned more about the digital world and the reality of the importance of the graphics and its affects on the press! From there I moved to a carton printing company in Omaha. I finished my degree in commercial art at UNO and continued working and learning more about printing and graphics. The depth of knowledge gained and the volume of the workload increased my skills by leaps and bounds. After the birth of our second child I left the corporate world behind and now 4 years later, I have partnered up with Jackie to form JAM Creative. |
